Tarantula Hawk

Tarantula Hawk

I didn’t even know that tarantulas lived in San Diego and I was really uncertain what was happening here.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that there are insects that paralyze tarantulas, in order to keep them alive for their young to feed on.  (Creepy!)   This tarantula hawk was moving fast.  In fact, I probably would not have paid much attention to her if some kids didn’t shout, “Watch out for that bug!”

“Tarantula Hawk” was taken on September 10, 2010 near the Visitor Center at Mission Trails Regional Park.  I screamed while taking the photo.
